DETAILS
Trout Unlimited, Inc., the US Forest Service, and the US Fish & Wildlife Service are hosting a workshop as part of their mission to engage local, regional, and state stakeholders throughout the northeastern US in creating more flood resilient communities. In the wake of devastating floods like those from Hurricane Sandy and Tropical Storm Irene, decision makers and highway administrators require a basic knowledge of stream functions, in addition to a suite of strategies to successfully restore flood damaged areas while protecting against future losses. This workshop includes a number of informational presentations and an afternoon Q&A session between audience members and presenters.

Topics:
  • Basic stream and river functions;
  • Infrastructure vulnerability;
  • Strategies to decrease vulnerability & increase resiliency;
  • Overview of funding programs, including FEMA programs;
  • Successful ‘flood-ready’ programs in neighboring states;
  • Post-disaster best practices;
  • How to better prepare for the next flood event!
