Join us for our Social Media for Disaster Response and Recovery course. Learn valuable information on the strengths, challenges, and uses of social media sources. Build skills and knowledge to integrate social media into your current communication plans for disaster response and recovery and the hands-on experience necessary to start and execute a social media disaster plan. Participate in facilitator-led activities that will challenge you to identify effective social media platforms to utilize during crises situations and assist with mastering skills to disseminate information and monitor, track, measure, and analyze social media traffic.

Course Modules:
  • Introduction to Social Media
  • Understanding the Use of Social Media and Disaster Management
  • Implementing Different Social Media Platforms for Disaster Management
  • Facebook Hands-On
  • Twitter Hands-On
  • Crowdsourcing & Data Mining
Requirements: Participants will be required to bring their own laptop or wi-fi enabled device (laptop or tablet - laptop is preferred) to the training session for the hands-on exercises. Participants must have Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts and be able to post test messages on these accounts. This course conducts a Pre-test, Post-test, and Course Evaluation online.

Target Audience: This course is targeted for a broad cross section of individuals and professionals interested and involved in emergency management, planners, as well as communication and public information personnel.
