Disaster Resilience in America: Launching a National Conversation
Wednesday, October 24, 2012

"Resilience" - the ability to plan and prepare for, absorb, recover from or more successfully adapt to adverse events.

Resilience is a term increasingly used by local, state, and federal governments, as well as community groups, businesses, and emergency responders, in order to express the need for collective approaches to reduce the large human and economic losses that communities and the country face each year from disasters.  On November 30, the National Academies will hold an event that will build upon the recent report, Disaster Resilience: A National Imperative.  Through keynote presentations and a series of panel discussions with nationally recognized experts in disaster resilience, the event will launch a national conversation on resilience that translates to resilience-building actions.
