Flood Science Center

The ASFPM Flood Science Center has recently completed two extensive reports:

Flood Mapping for the Nation

Since 1969, the US has invested $6.6 billion ($10.6 billion in 2019 dollars) in flood hazard mapping, resulting in nearly $22 billion in losses avoided. But we are far from completing the job, as only 1/3 of the nation’s streams have currently been mapped. Visit Flood Mapping for the Nation to learn more.

Understanding and Managing Flood Risk: A Guide for Elected Officials

This comprehensive flood guide walks elected officials through the key information they need to fulfill their floodplain management responsibilities before, during, and after a flood event. Visit Understanding and Managing Flood Risk: A Guide for Elected Officials to access the report.
